About Dee Smith

I am a Texan, transplanted at an early age from California, and madly in love with my Houston home. After a long career as a legal and technical writer, I switched to my true passion - fiction, specializing in suspense/thrillers pitting good against evil by supernatural forces through people.

Before I began full-time writing, I acted in plays in Community Theater, a short stint as an actress for TV commercials, and for two years taught children enrolled in a film acting school where I was a partner with a professional TV and film actress, Kim Terry.

Deep compassion and understanding for young people of all ages guide me as a novelist. As a freelance writer, I specialize in articles or essays for magazines and book anthologies describing some of my own experiences as they relate to the selected themes.

Over the past 15 years, I have been a volunteer for Child Advocates, Inc., and ChildBuilders, nonprofit organizations created to protect, counsel, or appropriately educate children and teens who are victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse, or severe neglect. These organizations team with Child Protective Services, City and County law enforcement agencies, and the school districts to provide help to families. I have included direct links to the web sites of a few of these agencies where help is available.

My debut novel, Deliver Us From Evil, draws upon my own experiences of abuse as a child and in cults as a young adult. Nevertheless, I meticulously research everything for authenticity, especially the escalating cult movements and the thriving international operations dealing with child and teen sex trafficking, growing to unthinkable proportions throughout the world.
